Air Squadron
Role: Transport (Secondary roles Border Patrol/SAR)

The Air Squadron was first formed in May 1972 as the Helicopter Flight of the Malta Land Forces. The title was changed to Air Squadron in 1992 when fixed-wing aircraft were received. The unit provides transport and also Search & Rescue duties. Contrary to some reports, the helicopters were never flown from Hal Far, although a support facility was based there from September 1978 to mid 1980.
