Unit History

Hato Flight
Role: Fighter-pilot training

First formed 17 April 1959 at De Kooij, with Fokker S.11 aircraft loaned from the KLU, to provide basic flying training. Two Harvards were added December 1964, with an additional pair in March 1966. From 1 January 1970 nine Fokker S.11s were permanently transferred to 9 sqn by the KLU, to provide basic flying experience for pupils of the Naval Institute. In addition, UT-6 Harvards towed target drogues for naval gunnery practice, until the two survivors were sold in 1971. The unit disbanded 1 September 1973 and its aircraft put into storage.
