Military Air Bases and Airfields

This page gives details of some of the air bases and airfields which are, or have been, used by the Slovenian Air Force.

Cerklje Air Force Base (ICAO code: LJCE)
Cerklje air base lies close to the small village of Cerklje. It is located South-East from Ljubljana, South from Krsko and West from Brezice, near the border with Croatia and the Krka river. It was built during the time of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. It is currently the base for two Air Force squadrons.
Runway data: Rwy 09/27, Size: 7980 x 150 ft (2432 x 46 m), Elev: 510 ft (155 m), N45 53 59.90 E015 31 48.70, asphalt.

Ljubljana-Brnik Air Force Base (ICAO Code: LJLJ)
Ljubljana-Brnik Air Force Base is co-located with Brnik International Airport, near the capital Ljubljana, on the opposite side of the single runway from the passenger terminal. Brnik International Airport was originally build in 1963. When Slovenia was a part of Yugoslavia, Brnik was host to JRV units or just a regional airport? Following independence, Brnik became the main base for the newly established Slovenian Air Force in mid 1991. It is currently the base for two Air Force squadrons.

Ljubljana-Siska
An airfield on the outskirts of Ljubljana at Siska was used 2 November 1918-1919, after Slovenia gained its independence from the Austro-Hungarian Empire in October 1918. Home base for the Letalska Stotnija Ljubljana. The airfield was originally built for the Austro-Hungarian Imperial Air Service prior to independence, and was home base to Flik 12. Army aviation of the Kingdom of S.H.S. used this air base until 1924. Today, Siska has been absorbed into the city of Ljubljana.

Maribor Airport (ICAO code: LJMB)
Maribor is the second airport in Slovenia. It is located to the east and slightly north of Ljubljana. It was originally built in 1976. It is periodically used by Slovenian Forces.
Runway data: Rwy 15/33, Size: 8202 x 148 ft (2500 x 45 m) asphalt, Rwy 15L/33R Size: 3937 x 197 ft (1200 x 60 m) grass, Elev: 876 ft (267 m), N46 28 47.50 E015 41 10.07.

Maribor-Tezno
An airfield on the outskirts of Maribor at Tezno was used 4 November 1918-6 October 1919, after Slovenia gained its independence from the Austro-Hungarian Empire in October 1918. Home base for the Letalska Stotnija Maribor. The airfield was originally built in 1913 as an auxiliary air base for the Austro-Hungarian Imperial Air Service. After 1919 this location was no longer used as a military airfield. Today, the site has been absorbed into the city of Maribor.

Portoroz-Secovlje Airport (ICAO code: LJPZ)
Portoroz-Secovlje is the third airport in Slovenia. It is located at Secovlje, south of Portoroz on the Adriatic coast, near Piran. Date of construction not known. It is occasionally used by Slovenian Forces. Official Airport Website.
