July 1914		The Austro-Hungarian Empire attacks Serbia, starting World War I.
October 1918		Austro-Hungarian Empire near collapse following major defeats in World War I.
29 October 1918		Proclamation of State Of Slovenians, Croats And Serbs.
1 December 1918		Slovenia is incorporated into the newly formed Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes.
1918-1919		Armed confrontation with Austria over the border province of Carinthia.
1928		Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes is renamed Yugoslavia.
6 April 1941		Yugoslavia is invaded and occupied by the military forces of Germany and its allies.
29 November 1945		Federal Republic of Yugoslavia established, with Slovenia as one of the republics.
1947		Slovenia receives a section of former Italian Adriatic coastline.
April 1990		First non-Communist government elected in Slovenia.
23 December 1990		Slovenes vote in favour of independence.
25 June 1991		Slovenia declares independence from Yugoslavia.
27 June 1991		Yugoslav armed forces attack Slovenia in a bid to halt the secession by force.
December 1991		Slovenian independence recognised internationally.
22 May 1992		The Republic of Slovenia was admitted into the United Nations.
21 November 2002		The Republic of Slovenia was invited to join NATO. Full membership should be achieved in 2004.
2 April 2004		Slovenia becomes a full member of NATO.
