Serbia & Yugoslavia
National Flags
This section describes and illustrates the various national flags used by Serbia and Yugoslavia:
Kingdom of Serbia, 1833-1918
The original Serbian national flag was a version of the Russian national flag, with the colours in reverse order.

Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, 1918-1929
With the creation of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes in late 1918, a new flag that incorporated elements of the flags of the founder states was introduced.

Kingdom of Yugoslavia, 1929-1941
The flag remained unchanged after the change of name to Kingdom of Yugoslavia in 1929.

Yugoslavia, 1945-1992
After World War Two, the communist government introduced a national flag which featured a yellow outlined red star on a blue, white and red background.

Serbia and Montenegro, 1992-2006
The post-communist break-up of Yugoslavia produced a new version of the national flag without the red star.
Republic of Serbia, 2006-present
The split with Montenegro in 2006 meant the Serbian state flag now became the national flag. Curiously, the flag of the 'republic' still has a crown on it.
