Defence Evaluation & Research Agency (DERA)

Founded in 1918 as the RAE (Royal Aircraft Establishment), from the former Royal Aircraft Factory. Associated organisations included the A&AEE (Aircraft & Armament Experimental Establishment), and the MAEE (Marine Aircraft Experimental Establishment). Operated under Air Ministry (later MoD (PE) control. RAE became DRA (Defence Research Agency) on 1 April 1991, and A&AEE became part of DTEO (Defence Test & Evaluation Organisation). DERA formed 1 April 1995 from amalgamation of DRA, DTEO and other MoD(PE) agencies. Subsequently rationalised into multi-disciplinary 'sectors'. DERA also includes ETPS (Empire Test Pilot's School).
