FlightXPress

Aviation-related Magazines Guide

‘FlightXPress’ was a monthly magazine about flight simulation on the PC. Produced in Austria, it was also circulated widely in Germany and Switzerland. The first edition appeared in January 1999. The subtitle was Das führende Magazin für flugsimulation und mehr.

Typical contents comprised news, software & hardware reviews, flights you can try, flying technical issues, virtual airline reports etc. A double-sided poster was often included.

In 2007 the publisher was taken over by a Luxembourg company, which replaced the editorial team. The result was a major redesign of the magazine. The magazine initially only covered private and sport flying, as well as gliding. In subsequent years, the editorial scope expanded to also include general interest commercial, military and spaceflight topics, as reflected in changes to the sub-title. In 1953 the subtitle was changed slightly to Zeitschrift für die österreichische Luftfahrt. By 1958 the subtitle had changed to Die Luftfahrtzeitschrift Österreichs and in 1977 changed again to Die Luft- und Raumfahrtzeitschrift Österreichs.

The magazine closed in 1994 after some 43 years of publishing. Later issues were produced by Europublica Verlag.
