Unit History

Grupo de Aviación 11

Role: Attack/Training.

The unit was formed in 1949 with Republic F-47D Thunderbolt to act as an operational conversion. After a reorganisation in 1954, the unit was part of Ala Base 2. With the phase-out of the Republic F-47D from active inventory, the unit was disbanded in 1959. In the 1960s the group was reactivated as navigational training unit for multi-engineed aircraft and became known 1970 also as Escuela de Navegación y Vuelo with three Beech 99. The unit received more Beech 99 later and transfered to Base Aérea Los Cerrillos/Santiago in 1979 but was disbanded again the same year and handed over its Beech 99 to Grupo de Aviación 10. In September 1988 the group was again reactivated with eighteen ENAER T-35A/B/D Pillan and eight ENAER PA-28-235 Dakota.
