Unit History


Air Patrol Detachment El Paso

Role: SAR, Law Enforcement.

The unit was formed as Air Patrol Detachment San Antonio at Dodd Field/Fort Sam Houston on 9.3.1934. At the end of a year operations theunit was transferred to Del Rio/Texas. The Detachment operated from the commercial airfield and relied upon American Airlines facilities and assistance. Coast Guard Headquarters, much to the pleasure of the city of El Paso, ordered the relocation of the Detachment to Biggs Field/Fort Bliss in December of 1936. Coast Guard Air Patrol took up residence in a small hangar at Biggs Field in February 1937. The unit was operational until 1939.
